TIME MANAGEMENT
"PROGRAMMING MAGAZINE - NACA"

This magazine article was also written for "Programming Magazine" by Robert Libka.  This article was developed following many interviews with student affairs staff across the nation and with prominent leaders in business and government.  These include a Deputy Secretary of the Department of Defense, a hospital president, directors of student activities and student union directors.

Authors quoted in this article include R.Alec MacKenzie, Alan Lakein, and Merrill E. Douglas.  This article is written for university student affairs administrators and student leaders, but the principles are useful regardless of your age or profession.

Mr. Libka recommends writing goals, objectives and activities down.  While most people in business or education utilize an appointment book or electronic diary they may fail to use them effectively.  Here are just a few quick tips.

  1. Schedule open time for the unexpected.
  2. Schedule time to work on projects, not just appointments.
  3. Schedule beginning and end times for meetings and all activiites.
  4. Schedule a specific time to return phone calls.

CONQUERING THE PROCRASTINATION HABIT
"PROGRAMMING MAGAZINE - NACA"

This section of the website includes a reprint of an article written by Mr. Libka for Programming Magazine. The following quotes are excerpts from his articles.

"Poke some holes in the overwhelming task by breaking it up into smaller more manageable pieces."

"Change requires action, and you must start acting differently to become different.  ... In order to act, you must first identify the behavior chain which accompanies your inability to start important projects."

"There is an astonishing contrast between the heavy perplexity that inhibits before the adventure has begun and the  excitement that grips us the moment it begins. As soon as a man makes up his mind to take the plunge into adventure, he is aware of a new strength he did not think he had, which rescues him from all his perplexities."
